I follow lots of Authors on Twitter, and when one of the authors I discovered last year (Kirsten Hesketh) mentioned her new book… I had to pre – order it. She’s published this book under a different pen – name… Poppy Cooper. When I shared how much I’d enjoyed The Post Office Girls By Poppy Cooper, I was asked to join in with her blog tour. My Thoughts On The Post Office Girls By Poppy Cooper:
Generally speaking, it takes me a good couple of weeks to read most books of this length. I managed to read this in just 2 days though – Impressive, by my usual standards. The first chapter painted the picture of Beth’s pretty quiet life in rural England. I was intrigued to find out how the war would affect her and the lives of those around her.
As the book progresses, Beth quickly decides she wants to contribute more to the war effort than just working in her parents’ village shop. So she sets the wheels in motion to become a post office girl.
I don’t want to spoil anything for readers, so won’t go into any more detail about the plot. I’ll say one thing though – this makes for addictive reading. I found myself reading until after 1am, both nights I was reading this book for.
Personally, I loved the unique insight The Post Office Girls by Poppy Cooper gives you. Firstly, you get an idea on how life was for those working in the Home Depot at The Regent’s Park. You also get an insight into how those from different classes pulled together for the war effort. This is, of course a work of fiction, but the author has spent MANY hours researching this period and the experiences of those who really did work in the Home Depot.
Despite this book being the first in a saga, it ends at a good point, so works as a standalone too.
That said, if you’re anything like me, you’ll also be pre – ordering the second instalment.
