Digital Marketing Mistakes To Avoid

Posted on 22/01/2019 by Tina @ GirlsGospel

We all make mistakes now and then, and entrepreneurs are no exception. Many people see errors as a bad thing, but some freelancers and business owners view them as an opportunity to learn and grow. However, some blunders are just too damaging to risk.  Some digital marketing mistakes can cost you time, money, and sometimes even your reputation. To keep your business out of harm’s way, here are five big digital marketing mistakes to avoid at all costs.

5 serious Digital marketing mistakes…

I’ve been blogging for over 7 years, and realised recently I hadn’t specified a keyword for each blog post. It is going to take me weeks to correct this! Here are some other big blunders to avoid…

Quantity Over Quality Content

Churning out content for the sake of it is becoming a major problem in the digital marketing world. With so much information already on the web, it’s easy for poor content to be overlooked. It will be pushed down the results in favour of more in-depth and relevant content. With that in mind, you should avoid posting keyword heavy content and little else. Instead, focus on developing a content strategy. Create one which revolves around providing value to your readers, and / or solving your customer’s problems.

Ignoring The Negative Feedback

Before most people decide to buy online, they tend to check out a company’s reviews first. This means that, if your website and social media are full of negative feedback, you’ll struggle to make a sale. Rather than ignore the comments you receive, you should take note and work to address them. This might could mean doing anything from improving delivery times to buying public and employers liability insurance. However you improve, ensure you show your customers the changes you have made.

Targeting The Wrong Audience

Not knowing your target audience is a common digital marketing mistake. This can cause even the most carefully planned campaigns to fall flat. It doesn’t matter how much time or money you invest in your tactics… If you aim them at the wrong people, you won’t see results. For this reason, it’s crucial that you conduct research and define your target audience. Once you know who you’re marketing to… You can use tracking pixels and cookies to take ads directly to those individuals.

Not Measuring Your Results

The fast moving world of digital marketing is ever changing. With new and trendy marketing tactics being invented all the time. To keep up with competition and grow as a company, you occasionally need to try out some new ideas. However, you shouldn’t just add them to your marketing strategy, and assume that they’ll work. You need to measure their effectiveness instead. This way, you won’t waste money on tactics that don’t work.

Believing SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) Is Dead

Finally, some would argue otherwise, but in my opinion, SEO is far from a thing of the past. It’s just as relevant today as it has always been. After all, when most customers are looking to buy something, they tend to look it up online first. This means that if your website doesn’t show up in the first few search results… You’re unlikely to get much business via search engines. There are lots of ways to boost your SEO, from posting quality content to linking to other sites and articles.
