If you’re looking for Fuerteventura Caravan holiday ideas, you’ve come to the right place. Fuerteventura is the second largest of the Canary Islands. It sits in the Atlantic Ocean, around 100km off the north coast of Africa. Fuerteventura is, of course best known for its Hotel and apartment type holidays, but Caravanning is an option too. It’s a popular holiday destination due to its year-round warm temperatures and white-sandy beaches, which are cooled by the constant cool breeze. The multitude of beaches that wrap around Fuerteventura are broken up by cliffs and coves – many of which are sheltered from the breezes the island is famous for. Fuerteventura’s also popular for water sports, especially windsurfing, regular surfing, waterskiing and sunsets on the West coast.
There’s a lot to see, which is why many people are looking for Fuerteventura Caravan holiday ideas. If you’re looking to stay in a caravan Fuerteventura style, keep reading for some great suggestions.
A good friend of mine has recently got a caravan and she’s been off travelling this Summer with her family. She was sad to discover you can’t easily get a ferry over to the Canary Islands. So unless you can afford to charter a ferry, your best bet is to use a company like Caravamos if you want to travel around Fuerteventura with a camper van.
They will pick you up from the airport and take you to the camper vans, where they will give you a full introduction to your vehicle. They run organised trips, so you can see all of the best parts of Fuerteventura. Keep reading for some of the best places to see, relating to Caravan Holiday ideas.
If you like to surf, El Cotillo Beach is a must-see. Whether you want to enjoy water sports or soak up an incredible sunset, El Cotillo Beach is the place to do it. You’ll be able to sunbathe too, of course.
This beach is located on the north-west of the island, so it makes for incredible sunsets. Many people enjoy yoga sessions on the beach – including the team at Caravamos. Plus, imagine waking up right next to the sea – bliss!
If you like quiet travel destinations, Punta Salinas is a must visit place. It’s on the southern tip of Fuerteventura, and is a rockier, more natural terrain to the Canary Islands. No man-made beaches here. it’s dark sand with rocks, and the perfect place for a night time campfire. It’s so dark here, you’ll see the stars like never before!
If you’re a fan of a stunning blue lagoon and beach caves, then you need to visit Fuerte, La Playa de Ayui. It’s located on the west of the island, and so it too boasts incredible sunsets.
Fuerte, La Playa de Ayui is a stunning Blue Lagoon. It is a must-see when on a Fuerteventura Caravan holiday. Imagine waking up, looking down onto that!
Many people (like my friend mentioned above) already have a caravan or camper van of their own, and want to take that to the Canaries with them. Unfortunately, there are no ferries from the Spanish Mainland (or even Morocco) over to Fuerteventura, or any of the other Canary Islands. So the only way to get your own transport over is to charter a private ferry.
The average cost of this is over €1500, for a return trip, so it’s not a viable option for most people, and works out much cheaper to fly over and hire one in your destination. Let me know in the comments if you have any other tips for enjoying a Fuerteventura Caravan holiday.
